CYO ALL STAR GAME HISTORY (1977-2007)

Overview: 8th grade players from the CYO began participating in an all-star football game in 1977.   The game was played as a prelim to the Hero Bowl in Delaware County.  In 1984 the game format was changed to a City Division vs the DelMont League.  With the demise of the Philadephia CYO league and the expansion of the DelMont league the game was shifted back to the Knights of Columbus.  Due to CYO rules a 7th grader may not play in the game or they would not be eligible for their 8th grade season.

1995-2007: The first year the game returned to Delaware County the teams were separated by a power ranking (1 to 20).  The goal was to spread the talent out evenly.  The following year, the team was split into an East - West Fortmat.  In 2005 the format was changed to accommodate the leagues growth in Chester County.

Dedication

In 2000, two names were added to the charities that we sponsor.  James J. Costello (Coz), and Al Consalvi (Game Director) have passed away.  These men are the founding fathers of the All-Star Game.  They envisioned a format if showcasing the best football players in the area.  And at the same time benefit a charity, Thus the concept of "our youth helping others" was born.  Our goal is to honor these men as true Humanitarians and keep their dreams alive for many years to come.  The 2007 CYO All Star Game will dedicate funds raised to : Ped Cancer Research@CHOP (Phila.), MMA research.  In years past we have donated to Al Consalvi Charity Funds (DELARC, Ronald McDonald House,City Team Ministries ,Special Olympics,, Madison Beirling Golf Outing) and James J Costello Tuition Grant ( Coz Fund)
